I took this photo in the fall of 2013. It’s of the second floor window of a house next to the church I used to go to growing up. Sometimes we would sneak out of services or wander off from VBS and go inside it until an adult would come looking for us. This house was the ultimate hide-n-seek spot because most kids were too afraid to go inside. It was next to a water tower that I was too scared to climb up, but a few older kids did once or twice. I spent that particular day in October driving around my home town in one of those weird nostalgia drives that I find myself on occasionally. I visited this house, the nearby ball field that I used to have tee ball practice at, and tried to sneak around the closed mill nearby. I’ve never been able to skirt the security guard for longer than 5-10 minutes, and he trespassed me from the property in record time.
I came back the following spring to find the house demolished, with nothing to show that it had existed except for the still barren land it once sat upon. I returned to relive those happier times once again, and to take a photo of the outside. I wish I knew what I set the white balance on the camera to because every photo from that day had the same greenish tint to them. Almost has the same feel as sepia tone but green, and weirdly nostalgic in it’s own way. Maybe I’ll find where I stashed the rest of the photos of this house and the other stuff I photographed that day. This is my favourite photo from the whole day. I fear much like this house that they’re gone forever. Just a blip in time and a memory that fades more as each day passes. -af
